STATE Gallery and Projects was a private contemporary gallery located in Vancouver’s South Granville Gallery Row district.  The gallery closed it's doors in February 2006 after five successful years in the Vancouver art community. Founded by Susan Almrud in 2001, the gallery had a striking and cutting-edge upper floor gallery space designed by renowned Canadian designers Patkau Architects.  The site was an ideal venue for the presentation of contemporary art and artist projects. Housed within the gallery was a main exhibition space along with a smaller project room.

STATE represented a dedication to art and artists with a long-term and lasting commitment to critical, contemporary art practice.  The gallery exhibited both national and international, emerging and established artists and was active in building a context for work placed  in private collections as well as major institutions and museums. The gallery hosted many lectures several times  throughout each season in conjunction with the exhibition program and was involved in working with artists on installation based projects and artist publications.

Gallery owner and director Susan Almrud continues to participate in the global art community as an art advisor to corporate and private clients.

Thank you to everyone who was there to participate in the gallery's life from 2001 - 2006.

A special acknowledgment to those who supported the gallery artists by collecting and taking risks.
